Izmir with a population of 300,000 is not only the third largest city in Turkey but is also the cultural center of the Aegean region. The city has one of the main ports in Turkey. Centuries back, this was famous as the ancient city of Smyrna with one of the Seven Churches of Revelation. Although modernization has changed the ancient city drastically, Izmir is the ideal starting point for circular tour of all the seven churches of revelation.
